Cryptozoology
Cryptozoology (from Greek κρυπτός, kryptos, "hidden" + zoology; literally, "study of hidden animals") is a pseudo-science involving the search for animals whose existence has not been proven. The animals cryptozoologists study are often referred to as cryptids, a term coined by John Wall in 1983. This includes looking for living examples of animals that are considered extinct, such as non-avian dinosaurs; animals whose existence lacks physical evidence but which appear in myths, legends, or are reported, such as Big-foot and Chupacabra; and wild animals dramatically outside their normal geographic ranges, such as phantom cats (also known as Alien Big Cats).
Cryptozoology is not a recognized branch of zoology or a discipline of science. It is an example of pseudo-science because it relies heavily upon anecdotal evidence, stories and alleged sightings.

I am sure there are strange creatures in this world yet undiscovered, so when we find them we do tests, if we find a DNA link we can classify them, are we zoologists? but what happens if we find no DNA links, we create a new classification, if so, then we must be cryptozoologists?
I love this area as it leaves so much open for discussion and research, do I believe in the Yeti, Big-Foot? No, I think they are just large animals yet to be classified, the Chupacabra on the other hand is fun, the famous Goat Sucker, so many reports and too much alcohol make this case worth looking at.
Is it an Alien? an escaped Science project? or just another misclassification of a dog? My guess is it's just a very large dog or cat with very large canines, being interrupted by something and runs off leaving puncture wounds in the neck, most big cats will choke out their prey before eating it, maybe the huge canines like a sabre-tooth just get in the way?
As for the Alien idea, this goes back to 1996 in Varginha, Brazil, during the course of several weeks at least two and perhaps as many as six alien creatures were captured or killed and turned over to American authorities, and a UFO may have crashed. Eyewitnesses described the creatures as humanoid and 3 to 4 feet tall. They had dark brown, hairless skin, big triangular heads with three short "horns" on top, and huge red eyes that were vertically oval. The most famous report 1996 in Varginha came from 3 school girls on their way home, Liliane Fatima Silva, her sister Valquiria and Katia Andrade Xavier - reported they saw a "terrifying creature".
Mexico, and the United States, especially in the latter's Latin American communities. Physical descriptions of the creature vary. Eyewitness sightings have been claimed as early as 1990 in Puerto Rico, and have since been reported as far north as Maine, and as far south as Chile. It is supposedly a heavy creature, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail. Biologists and wildlife management officials view the Chupacabra as a contemporary legend.

Beasties
I am talking about Nessie, The Kracken and Megalodon, so lets start with the one that's causing the most excitement at the moment and that's Megalodon. Megalodon is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 2.6 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. The taxonomic assignment of C. megalodon has been debated for nearly a century, and is still under dispute. Go-pro cameras and YouTube, videos have started appearing of very large creatures in our oceans and seas, most I believe to be mis-identification, the obvious being the Whale Shark, the whale shark is a slow-moving filter-feeding shark and the largest known extant fish species. The largest confirmed individual had a length of 12.65 m and a weight of about 21.5 t.

So whats the chances of a shark being around after 23 - 2.6 million years? Well the answer is fair to middleling, there are parts of the oceans and seas that we have not been to yet, in fact we know more about Mars and the Moon than we do about the waters on this planet, so it could be that a family of Megalodon still exist only coming to the surface rarely, there are NO images that I consider to be true images (not made up by Photoshop junkies) however this does not mean that they do not exist.
The primitive-looking coelacanth (pronounced SEEL-uh-kanth) was thought to have gone extinct with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. But its discovery in 1938 by a South African museum curator on a local fishing trawler fascinated the world and ignited a debate about how this bizarre lobe-finned fish fits into the evolution of land animals. |
Which brings me on to Nessie, Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Inverness. Its surface is 52 ft (16 m) above sea level. Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the cryptozoological Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as "Nessie". It is connected at the southern end by the River Oich and a section of the Caledonian Canal to Loch Oich. At the northern end there is the Bona Narrows which opens out into Loch Dochfour, which feeds the River Ness and a further section of canal to Inverness. It is one of a series of interconnected, murky bodies of water in Scotland; its water visibility is exceptionally low due to a high peat content in the surrounding soil.81 years ago Colonel Robert Wilson made a grainy black and white photo (Later admitted by the Colonel to be fake) of a shape that resembled a prehistoric creature that was emerging from the icy waters of Loch Ness. The photo was published in the Daily Mail and since then the sightings of Nessie, perhaps the most famous monster in the world, became almost impossible to keep up.
Up to the present day, people are still searching for “Nessie” and even Google has joined the search, why?Again it's possible that some animals got isolated from the sea and remain in the Loch, but as yet no real proof has been put forward.

Striped Raphael Catfish (Platydoras armatulus) Google Earth Image
Have a close look at Googles image of Nessie and the image of the catfish, the cat on the right is about 4" long, look closely to the catfish it's almost identical to the shape in the Google image.
The Kraken
The Kraken is a legendary sea monster of giant size that is said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. A number of authors over the years have postulated that the legend originated from sightings of giant squids that may grow to 12–15 meters (40–50 feet) in length, despite the fact that the creature in the original tales was not described as having tentacles and more closely resembled a whale or crab. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the kraken have made it a common ocean-dwelling monster in various fictional works. It was first described by the Dane, Erik Pontoppidan in his first book: Det første forsøg paa Norges naturlige Historie, forestillende dette kongeriges Luft, Fjelde, Vand, Væxter, Metaller, Mineraliser, Steen-arter, Dyr, Fugle, Fiske og omsider Indbyggernes Naturel, samt Sædvaner og Levemaad, I-II, Kbh. 1752-1753. So there you have it, my take on the beasties.
